Ovulation is important and key to getting pregnant. For women, it is almost difficult to pinpoint when that time will come. In theory the best time for ovulation to take place is 10-14 days after the last menstrual period. This is when the LH is the highest. Women cannot accurately predict when their menstrual cycles will occur, however. Even if they did it is still difficult to determine when ovulation occurs. However, there are times where women can determine whether or not they are ovulating even if they are in the proverbial window. Note: women do not be sexually active to determine when they ovulating. It is good to get to know your body before and after being sexually active.
- Changes in Cervical Position – Cervical mucus will change during ovulation or when it nears ovulation. It will become softer (some people say runnier), more open, and higher. The partner can actually check this – and there are some unique ways the woman can check it as well.
- Breast Tenderness – When breasts are tender it is a sign that the hormones in the body are changing. If a woman hasn’t worked out in a while or have done upper body strength training and the breasts are tender then it is a good sign that ovulation is occurring or about to occur.
- Basal Temperature Changes – This is most noticeable when charting. The temperature does not have to be extremely high to be noticeable. Changes can be subtle, like .1 or .2 degree difference.
There are other factors like increased sexual desire and saliva ferning. Even of all these options listed it still does not offer an accurate account of ovulation. A good way to back up these “symptoms” is by testing with an ovulation test.
Even when a woman is ovulating it is still no guarantee of conception immediately. It takes work and time but the results of knowing these symptoms will go a long way. It all starts with the woman’s cycle, however. Without knowing where they are it will become difficult to conceive.
All of these factors are good factors to know even as the male in the relationship. What some women do is chart their “progress”; or, chart the temperature, fluid viscosity, and when they had their cycles. Every couple is different, but in either case, it will be a wonderful day when that news come. It will be worth it and the couple can enjoy a life together with a beautiful child.
